Shahryar Sarkani, D.Sc., is an educator and technology leader with extensive experience in engineering management, systems engineering, software engineering, decision making, statistics, probability, and research methods. He earned a Doctor of Science in Systems Engineering from George Washington University, a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of New Orleans, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at George Washington University since 1999, where he teaches master’s- and doctoral-level courses and advises EMSE, Cybersecurity, and AI doctoral students.

Dr. Sarkani also had a 29-year career at Fannie Mae, progressing from Senior Software Developer to Director of Technology, because apparently one career was not enough. His work included leading enterprise-scale finance, accounting, cloud migration, database, business intelligence, and software development initiatives. He managed major Oracle and Netezza database systems handling hundreds of millions to billions of monthly transactions, led AWS migration planning, and oversaw full-lifecycle development of mission-critical financial systems. His scholarly record includes 24 peer-reviewed journal articles and 7 conference papers, with publications in systems engineering, software reliability, cybersecurity, risk analysis, defense acquisition, and complex systems.
