Department: Engineering Management
Dr. Tyler Veglia is an adjunct professor and doctoral research advisor at The George Washington University. He earned his Doctor of Engineering in Engineering Management from The George Washington University, along with a Master of Science in Energy Systems from Clarkson University and a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Excelsior University.
Dr. Veglia currently serves as a Technical Manager at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, where he leads teams supporting the testing and lifecycle management of mission-critical training simulators used in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program. His work centers on system performance, testing execution, and continuous improvement in complex, high-reliability environments.
His doctoral research focused on the use of machine learning, including convolutional neural networks, to better understand and detect equipment failure in mechanical systems under varying operating conditions. His interests include applying practical data-driven approaches to improve engineering outcomes and decision making.
In addition to his civilian role, Dr. Veglia serves as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve and previously spent over a decade on active duty as a Nuclear-Trained Machinist’s Mate, qualifying as a Chief Petty Officer aboard submarines.
