Kimberly Sorrell, D. Eng.

Dr. Sorrell is a research advisor for the Online Engineering Programs at the George Washington University.

Kim has over 25 years of experience in Information Technology and is presently the Director of the Information Management Office for Southern Company where she focuses on enterprise level data, data analytics and artificial intelligence initiatives.  She is responsible for leading a diverse group consisting of Data Architects, Developers, Data Analysts, Data Scientists and Data Engineers.  Her industry experience spans energy, manufacturing, trading, insurance and natural gas.

Kim completed a Doctor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with George Washington University in January 2026.  She also holds a Master of Computer Science in Machine Learning from Georgia Tech, a Master of Business Administration in Operations Management from the University of Colorado (UCCS), and a Bachelor of Science Degree in each of Mathematics and Computer Science from Louisiana State University.
